Difficult Retouching

The conversation usually goes this way when I mention to an agency CD, ACD, or AD that I do retouching: “We have our staff people who do our retouching.” “Yes, I realize that,” I’ll say, “but I’m the one you call when it’s the impossible job.”

That’s the kind of jobs I usually get—the really tough ones. Case in point: The client wants a dark background instead of white behind a water splash; The problem to solve is what parts of the splash are white highlights and what parts are transparent seeing through to the white background?
